It can also be caused by hypoestrogenism derived from a hepatic pathology such as cirrhosis in which the liver is not able to metabolize estrogens. Males undergoing estrogen treatment may develop fat accumulation as an enlarged breast, known as pseudogynecomastia; although, it is common for them to develop real breasts, which is called gynecomastia. This breast pathology is more frequent in males. Obese males also often develop pseudogynecomastia and it usually occurs at puberty, from the age of 12 or 14 years to 20 or 21 years.
Male patients who present unilateral or bilateral breast augmentation, who have previously ruled out endocrinological, hepatic diseases, tumors, and who are not at the puberty stage, can undergo a resection procedure of this tissue.
