+ - Is it possible to opt only for a pharmacological treatment without having to undergo a hair transplant, or vice versa?

The clear answer to this question depends on the extent of hair loss and the number of alopecic areas with no evidence of remaining miniaturized follicles. This is something that the specialist must evaluate and decide if it is a case that could only be reversed with pharmacological therapy or if it is necessary to perform an autologous implant. However, it has been shown that multitherapy combining oral pharmacotherapy, topical therapy and mesotherapy together with autologous follicular unit implantation obtains the best results.

+ - Which are the current micro capillary implantation techniques?

There are currently two capillary microimplantation techniques. Both techniques use the principle of the follicular unit.
Hair grows in follicular units. Each follicular unit can be made up of 1 to 6 hairs, each with its respective bulb.
The current concept of capillary microsurgery is the transfer of Follicular Units from an area resistant to hair loss (occipital, temporal) to a receiving area that has lost hair.
Both techniques FUE (FOLLUCULAR UNIT EXTRACTION) OR FUSS (STRIP SURGERY WITH FOLLICULAR UNITS) follow exactly the same principles. The difference between one and the other lies basically in the method of extracting the follicular units that are going to be implanted. The FUSS method has been in development for many years and has been giving us excellent results in the receiving area. However, in the donor area there can always be a scar that in many men who like to wear short hair could be visible.

FUSS technique can be briefly described as follows:

Traditional Technique

A strip of hair is removed from the occipital area of the scalp.
There is no need to shave the whole head, only the area where the strip is removed and the area where implants will be placed.
Follicular units are carefully fragmented from the removed strip.
Implementation procedure is performed unit by unit just as in FUE method.
The incision is closed using a trichophytic technique to avoid scar display.

Modern Technique

Individual follicular units are extracted from the donor area and are already available for implantation.
Full scalp shaving is required.
The implantation procedure is performed one unit by unit.
No visible scar is left.

FUE technique was developed to avoid leaving a scar in donor area. It has currently become the most widely used technique worldwide to perform hair micro-implantation.

Implantation

Implantation techniques are very similar, but vary according to the art of each specialist. Ensuring that a proper frontal line development is achieved, resembling the natural hair patterns of both men and women, is extremely important.

+ - Is there any contraindication to perform the capillary microimplant?

The science of the capillary microimplant is based on transferring hair that is resistant to loss from the nape region to sensitive areas. The dominance of this transplanted hair does not vary over time. However, if there is a global reduction in follicular density in the donor area, this hair would not be suitable for transplantation. In those cases, the first choice is pharmacological treatment and mesotherapy.

+ - How are other types of alopecia treated?

The main cause of alopecia is androgenic. However, there are scarring alopecias due to immunological action and physical damage. Each case must be carefully evaluated when it does not follow a defined androgenic pattern and the treatment is essentially the same, with modifications as appropriate.

+ - Can it be grafted on a scar?

Scalp scars are treated with a FUE implant. Despite being an area of fibrous tissue with little vascularization, the implants ignite at low density and improve the vascularization conditions of the scar. A second implantation can be performed after evidencing the growth of the initially implanted follicular units.
